Here are five of the best neighborhoods for young professionals in Lexington, KY and a bit about each.

1. Fairway-Liberty Heights-

Average Age of Residents: 41 Median Income: $53,000 This area is perfect for young professionals for a wide range of reasons. For starters, its location is central enough that you can reach downtown and the business sector quickly but you are not smack dab in the middle of it. This means that the cost of living is reasonable even though it is in a great location. The total crime rate for the area is around 2,100 crimes reported per 100,000 people most crimes being property based. Only 148 violent crimes were reported last year per 100,000 people. On top of this area being safe, the cost of living index when compared to the national average of 100 is 98. The median household value of the area is about $200,000 and the average rental rate per month is around $700. The area also has a very good high school graduation rate of 84% and is perfect for young professionals looking to establish themselves. The area is close to main thoroughfares and is close to public transit. You can also access a wide range of amenities from this location which means you do not have to give up the convenience of the city for this neighborhood.

2. Mount Vernon- Hollywood-Montclair-

Average Age of Residents: 34 Median Income: $37,000 This area is exceptionally livable with a great livability score of 80 compared to the national average of 100. The cost of living index on the same scale is 103 meaning that the cost of living is low and perfect for young professionals. This neighborhood is also very close to the University of Kentucky and to the downtown area so it is great for those that want a lower cost of living but still a close proximity to the action. The area has around 2,200 reported crimes per 100,000 people with only about 156 of those being violent crimes and the rest being property crimes. Average rent for the area is about $700 per month with the average value of homes being in the $250,000 range. This area also has excellent access to amenities and excellent access to public transit.

3. Chevy Chase- Ashland Park-

Average Age of Residents: 33 Median Income: $86,000 This area is wonderful for young professionals as it is very close to the downtown area and is exceptionally well maintained for those that like to go out in the neighborhood and feel safe. The average home value in this area is about $400,000 and the average monthly rent is about $700. This is a centrally located area that is close enough to downtown and to the action that you can have a successful career without having to worry about finding a neighborhood that is not all that appealing. This area has tons of amenities and scores a 123 on the cost of living index compared to the national average of 100. This area also has a very high graduation rate for students with a 95%. As far as crime goes, there are about 1,700 reported crimes per 100,000 people with only 123 of them being violent crimes, property crimes are the highest reported. Since this area is a bit higher cost than some, it may be best to rent in the area first before purchasing a home. This area is very close to all the amenities and has great access to public transit as well.

4. Crestwood-Hinda Heights-

Average Age of Residents: 34 Median Income: $69,000 This area is great for young professionals because it is so centrally located. Just a hop skip and a jump away from Nicholasville Road, one of several main thoroughfares through the city, residents have access to shops, restaurants, groceries, entertainment and so much more. The average value of a home in the area is about $281,000 and the average monthly rent is around $680. This area scores a 106 on the cost of living index compared to the national average of 100 and it scores an 81 on livability on the same scale. This area also has a relatively low crime rate with about 1,700 reported crimes per 100,000 people each year only 123 of them being violent crimes. This area is great for those that want easy access to all the best parts of the city and that want to be able to get up and go without having to worry about how they are going to get there.

5. Holiday Hills-


For those that want to save a little money but not sacrifice area, this is a great option. With easy access to New Circle Road you can quickly get to where you are going and not really have to worry. This area also has access to public transit and would be a great starting area for those that are establishing their career. The average value of a home in this neighborhood is about $122,000 and the average monthly rent is around $600. This area does have a slightly higher crime rate than the other areas we’ve been discussing but it is still low. With about 5,000 reported crimes per 100,000 people and only 350 of them being violent crimes. This area scores an 88 on cost of living compared to the national average of 100 These area ll areas that may make the perfect home for you.
